Adding Pictures into Posts
Pictures appearing in the body of posts must be hosted somewhere. The location of the hosting is up to the discresion on the poster. There are several options available for hosting. Hosting packages are available at most domain name registrars. They typically vary in cost depending on the amount of size or bandwidth desired. Packages cost from under $5 per month to several hundred dollars per month. There are also several free image hosting options available. We recommend www.photobucket.com for an image hosting solution. Photobucket is one of the largest image hosting companies on the internet. Once a free account is created, images can be easily uploaded and direct links are automatically provided. Every image in a users free account is displayed with a "Direct Link" field. This direct link is virtual web site address that your image can be viewed at. When you register at www.Goldsmithing.com, you can begin posting in the forums. When you create a new thread or reply to a post, directly above the text box you type in, there is a picture of a mountain against a yellow sky that reads "insert image". During your post (once your images are uploaded to photobucket) click the insert image button. A window will pop up that requires you to insert a link. Copy and paste the "direct link" provided from photobucket into this area. Your image will now appear in you post! Some important points to remember are: #1-Some digital cameras create very large images by default. It is recommended that images be resized to a smaller size before uploading to your hosting provider. #2-Your image must be hosted somewhere. #3-Copy and paste the image URL into the "insert image" field during your post to have it appear in the desired location, don't wait until you are finished typing your text. #4-Contact us with any further questions. #5-Above all, ask a question, post your work, correct a post or instroduce yourself! Help our community grow.
